Context: 1 (30F) just moved into my first solo apartment alone back in September 2024. When touring the complex I noticed there was a good amount of community cats that were roaming.
  • 03
The landlady mentioned it, but she said that they were all very friendly and that they were kittens around somewhere. The general vibe was that it was a very cat friendly place and me owning two cats felt very at home. after I moved in.

I noticed that there was a good amount of neighbors who were feeding the cats so I also began feeding the cats. I noticed a lot of them were actually very friendly, but they were still intact. None of them

were spayed or neutered, and it definitely looked like some of the cats had just had litters. They didn't trust me enough at the time to show me where their kittens were so I started to try to gain their trust

by giving them treats and love. After about two months it started to get really cold because it was winter so I put out a blanket next to my storage unit to give them something to be warm in.

My landlady noticed told me to move the blanket as she didn't want any personal items outside of the storage units and to not provide any shelter to the cats, so I removed the blankets.

I had a bowl outside my unit to try to draw some of the cats closer to my home as I do not have any real traps. I tried to get them closer to try and close the door behind them. It was kind of

Hi... I will pay any fines, I won't argue that at all due to my conduct. I love this place so much and don't want to be a bother. I did feed them in the past and tonight was the first time I put food out since we last spoke about this issue. It was an attempt to get the orange cat with the broken toe inside to be taken to a rescue but my attempts failed, I got frustrated and I gave up and just left the excess outside. The whole thing was a mistake on my part. I'll be waiting for service, this is

working until my landlady came by and noticed. She told me to stop, no bowls and hand feed only. I contacted some places that do low to no cost spay and neuter but they only do it on certain days of the month and I would

I have to hang onto the cats if I did succeed and trap some inside. My landlady saw me hand. feeding, she said stop and because it was the third time I felt shame and stopped.

It's been about 3-4 weeks since we last spoke and last night around 9:10pm I went outside and there was an orange cat with a broken foot. Either his toes were smashed or his ankle but he was obviously very injured, so I tried to coax him in and

he didn't want to. I was anxious and frustrated and I gave up, leaving the small amount of food next to the door. At 9:35pm I got the email in the first picture.

My heart sank, I can't stop crying because I'm in fear of losing my apartment. I don't have the funds to up and leave in 3 days and I don't feel secure in my own home. I feel like I'm under surveillance just for not wanting a living animal to starve. My heart

is so torn because I feel so guilty abandoning these cats that already live this hard life. There are currently 5 cats that are in this complex that I see on the regular. (There are more but they come from neighboring complexes)
  • 19
2 of the girls are very obviously pregnant, one is younger but I think she had kittens already she's not pregnant now. Don't know where the kittens are but the other two queens are about to pop.
  • 20
The two boys are in tact, one has a broken foot/toe and the other is a senior that you can tell has had a very very hard life on the streets.
  • 21
I've contacted cat TR groups and programs but have had no luck and I'm desperate for any kind of answers or help. Please please what can I do?
  • 22
I have to stop feeding them because I don't want to have to move and I don't want to be labeled the troubled tenant because I'm too fricken emotional to ignore an animal in need.
  • 23
Either way, I'll be hiding inside because I'm ashamed of the situation I got myself in for trying to help. Please if you know of any rescues or groups that can assist please send them. I've contacted OC Animal Care, Tipped Ears, Cats in need of Human Care. Please anyone help!

Wanted to give an update: As of this coming Friday ALL the community cats have been successfully TNR'd! A wonderful trapper from OC Community Cats came out and helped me get all the cats (and the ones outside my complex) to the vet for care and 3 litters were prevented from being born. outside during the rain storm.
